Stanford West Parking Policy
The goal of Stanford West Apartments is to adequately
meet the parking needs of our residents and their guests. These
Parking Guidelines are designed to maximize the use of the available
parking at Stanford West.
Addendum A of the lease agreement states:
Each unit is allocated a single garage for the purpose of vehicle
parking. Two and three bedroom units are allocated a single garage
and one unreserved surface parking space. Vehicles without a current
registration, recreational vehicles, boats, and trailers will
not be permitted in or around the premises and will be towed (with
adequate notice) at owners expense. Do not repair your car
on the property or empty ashtrays onto parking lots. Residents
may wash their cars on the property only in an area designated
as such.
Registration
Form & Parking Permit
The Guidelines require residents to register their
vehicles(1) with the Leasing
Office and display a Stanford West Parking Permit when parking
outside of their garage. Vehicle registration forms are available
in the Stanford West Leasing Office. All residents must complete
a Stanford West vehicle registration form. Residents in two and
three bedroom apartment homes and residents renting additional
carports who have completed the registration form will receive
a Stanford West Parking Permit(s).
Static cling stickers will be used as official Stanford West Parking
Permits and must be displayed inside on the lower corner of the
passenger side of the vehicle's windshield. Adhesive stickers
will be available for motorcycles. There is no charge for the
initial Stanford West Parking Permit. Lost or stolen permits can
be replaced upon payment of $50.00. Damaged permits will be replaced
at no charge upon return of the entire damaged permit to the Leasing
Office. Stanford West Parking Permits are the sole property of
Stanford West management and may be used only by the registered
permit holder(s) and may not be sold or transferred.
A parking permit does not guarantee the holder a specific parking
space, merely the opportunity to park in an unreserved surface
parking space.
Resident and
Guest Parking
All vehicles that display a valid Stanford West
Resident Parking Permit or a Stanford West Guest Parking Permit in the lower corner of the passenger side windshield are permitted
to park in any available and unused unreserved surface parking
space on the property. Residents are responsible for giving their
guests Stanford West Guest Parking Permits. Residents may obtain
Guest Parking Permits from the Leasing Office. The lot in front
of the Leasing Office is designated for guest and employee parking
only. Residents may not park in this lot unless unloading materials
for a function in the Social or Conference Room. The purpose of
the permits is to prevent the accidental removal of a vehicle
belonging to a Stanford West resident or guest from the property.
Enforcement
The Stanford West Parking Guidelines are enforced
from Monday at 8:00 a.m. through Friday at 5:00 p.m. During holidays
parking enforcement is suspended. Please see the Holiday
Calendar on the Stanford West Apartments web site: http://stanfordwest.stanford.edu.
Garages and Carports
Based on availability, additional garages, carports
and unreserved surface parking spaces are available for rent throughout
the community. Garages, carports and unreserved surface parking
spaces are rented on a month-to-month basis. Rental rates are
subject to change. Garages, either assigned or rented, are not
meant for storage, and rental agreements may be terminated if
garages are improperly used. Stanford West has a limited number
of on-site storage units available for rent. For information on
availability, please contact the Leasing Office.
Violations
A vehicle that is parked on the property without
a Stanford West Resident or Guest Parking Permit, will be in violation
of Stanford West's Parking Guidelines. If you are a resident and
have registered your vehicle with the Leasing Office, Stanford
West will not tow your vehicle without making reasonable attempts
to notify you. Once reasonable attempts have been made your vehicle
is subject to tow. The towing and storage of the vehicle will
be at the owner's expense.
Please note, no vehicle may be operated or parked in any median
strip, landscaped area, unpaved area or any other area not specifically
designated for parking. Vehicles parked in the auto court or in
a Red zone are subject to immediate towing.
Any vehicle that does not reasonably appear to be in running condition,
and is stored in an unreserved surface parking space shall be
considered abandoned. Abandoned vehicles will be towed and stored
at the owner's expense.
The person in whose name the Stanford West parking permit is issued
is responsible for any violations involving a vehicle displaying
that persons permit. A warning notice is not excused because
another person was using a resident's vehicle or the permit. Lack
of parking spaces, mechanical problems, inclement weather or other
inconveniences do not excuse parking policy violations. Vehicles
of residents who have a Stanford West parking permit but fail
to display it are in violation of the parking policy and subject
to warning notices or to being towed.
The City of Palo Altos parking regulations, including regulations
governing Red (Fire) and Blue (Handicap) zones, remain in effect
for the entire property. Blocking any part of the sidewalk (even
if the vehicle is parked in front of a garage) is a parking violation.
The City of Palo Alto's Transportation Division patrols streets
within the Stanford West community and issues parking tickets
to vehicles in violation of the parking code. Residents and visitors
to Stanford West are responsible for all tickets they receive.
